COLLEGE ADDS AIKIDO AS CREDIT COURSE

RICHMOND, Va. (6-6-02) - Randolph-Macon College, a private four-year college, is adding Aikido as a credit course in the fall.

Bryan Park Aikido's chief instructor, Tim Sheldon, started a club at the college last spring, and the college soon upgraded it to a credit course.

The class will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the new Brock Center. Senior students Adrian Beard, John Gentry and Dave Spangenthal will assist with the class.

Sheldon has taught an Aikido class at J.S. Reynolds Community College for the past six years, and senior student Brian Hill began teaching an aikido class at J.S. Reynolds' downtown campus last year.

The aikido classes place heavy emphasis on aikido's application to daily communications.

Randolph-Macon's Brock Center is a large new athletic building that probably will be used for aikido seminars in the future.
